Motorcycle Repair: Transmission problems on Harley motorcycle, mount victory ohio, harley motorcycle

Question
My friend bought a brand new Harley Motorcycle Model FLSTF manufactured by Harley Davidson. During the 1000 mile service, in the process of draining and refilling the transmission with fresh lubricant and reinstalling the drain plug, the transmission thread was damaged because the drain plug was tighten too much. The damaged transmission thread was repaired by the same Harley shop but in the process the transmission was damaged because of the small metal particles inserted by the repair of the thread.
My question is: Does this sounds familliar to you or is an isolated case?

Answer
I have seen this problem before. Installing the plug to tight causes the threads to strip out. I usually remove the pan when repairing it and instead of putting in a heli-coil I bore it out and install a steel insert. Then the problem will never happen again
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
