Motorcycle Repair: clunking noise, kawasaki zx, warm weather

Question
I own a 1992 kawasaki zx-6ninja, I've noticed that when I start it up There is a clunking noise coming from somewhere, this only happens for the first maybe 5 minutes after the bike is started. What could be the cause of this?

I also have another question for you, if my bike has not been running for a few hours I have to use the choke every time in order for it so start, or stay started while warming up. Should I need to use the choke everytime I start the bike? Even in warm weather?

Answer
Hi Drew.
Without knowing where in the engine this clunking is coming from, I couldn't say, with any certainty what the problem is.  I can say that you should have the bike looked at, however, even though it seems to go away after a while.

As far as needing the choke every time you start the bike cold.  If that has been the way it has always behaved, then you have no problem and it's just one of those quirks that happens to some models.
If the bike only recently started doing this, however, then you could need the carbs cleaned and you should check the air filter to make sure that it is clean.  In addition to that, check the valves and timing, as that could be off as well.

Good luck.
