Motorcycle Repair: Changing the Oil, plug drain, oil tank

Question
Dear Mike,
Could you please give me a detailed description on how to change the oil in a FXR 1983 Harley Davidson?  Thank You very much for your time.

Answer
Sure no problem.
First start the bike and let it run to warm up. This thins the oil and helps to suspend the junk in the oil to get it out when you drain it.
Now locate the drain plug. Drain the oil into somthing.
Locate the oil filter and remove it. It will probably be tight so you might need some pliers. Harley makes a oil filter remover that fits a 3/8th drive, so if you are going to be doing your own oil changes it will help.
install the new filter. put a little oil on the gasket of the filter so you dont pinch it when you tighten it. Tighten it by hand. when it it tight turn it another 1/4 turn. Fill the oil tank. Have the bike straight up when doing this. Start the bike and keep a eye on the oil pressure light. It will take a sec to go off. After running the bike for a minute or two, shut it off and check the oil level.
Your all set
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
