Motorcycle Repair: Power Loss, goldwing aspencade, air fuel mixture

Question
Mark,
I have an 1983 Goldwing Aspencade, GL1100. The bike seems to run okay at the lower gears winding out the motor to about 6000 RPMs. In 5th gear, the bike fails to accellerate beyond 4000 RPMs. Additionally, on a hill in second gear, there is a distinct loss of power. Any suggestions to further isolate this symptom to a cause?
Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,

I suspect the carburetors need tuning or the air intake needs attention to get the air-fuel mixture correct. Use throttle opening positions when describing carb or performance problems (1/4 throttle, etc..). RPM kinda falls in there, too, but not as important.

I reply to questions with very detailed repair/tuning info files. That's why I request an email address with questions.
