BMW Repair: my 1994 325i convertible broken cam sprocket., stranger things, bmw dealers

Question
I have had this car for almost 2 years.  Several months ago I had to have a cracked cylander head repaired to the tune of $3400. I decided to sell the car and put an ad in the paper, but didn't have much interest.  2 weeks ago the car died in the middle of the road.  Had it towed and the mechanic said the cam sprocket was broken in half and the only way to assess the damage is to take off the head which is very costly.  He and several other BMW dealers told me that they have never see this happen.  What do you recommend?  I really want to get out from under this car.  It has 103,000 miles on it.  Are there mechanics who would be willing to buy it?  I owe $7000 on it!  Help! Answer
I have heard of stranger things but a broken cam sprocket is not good.Yes it would have to be torn down and examined. All in all it us a bad thing most techs wouldn't have alot of intrest as it would and will be costly to do (as you have found out)Having the cam break(sprocket)the chances of the valves hitting the pistons and bending are pretty good.I'm sorry for the bad news.
