Motorcycle Repair: Squealing, stator coil, 1400 intruder

Chris,my '99 1400 intruder has a weird sound coming from the left side of the bike at certain speeds. The sound stops when I pull in the clutch and isn't affected by revving the throttle.The bike has 20,000 miles on it.Clutch still seems to release smoothly.The sound is loud enough that other bikes can hear it on the highway.Your expert opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike.
 There's a lot of stuff on that side of the bike.  Where on the left side?  It could be the stator coil, the water pump, part of the clutch or even the CV joint at the drive shaft.

Without knowing what area of the left side that the noise is coming from, I couldn't say for sure what the problem is.
