Motorcycle Repair: fuel?, fuel injection system, electrical failure

Question
my question is this.my friend has a 2001 gsxr 750. we just installed a motor in his bike and everything hooked up fine.we took his old motor out and put a new one in,the bike started right upand when i took it for a ride it would cut out around 8,ooo rpms. then it just started to get worse, it started to cut out around 4,000.JUst sitting there the bike idled fine but as soon as i gave it a little throttle the bike would shut off.It seems like something fuel but the bike is electronically fuel injected,so i dont know.now the bike wont even start.can you help me out thanks.

Answer
Hi Chris.
There's a couple of possibilities here.

1)  The fuel injection system is faulty/failing.

2)  Something is in the fuel system which is blocking fuel flow.

3)  Water in the fuel.

4)  Electrical failure.

To test the electrical, spray some automotive starting fluid into the air intake and start the bike.
It should fire up.  If it doesn't, then the problem is electrical and you need to check wiring, connections and components of the ignition system.

If it fires up and dies, then the problem is in the injection system (electronic) or the fuel system (blockage, water, etc)

Good luck.
