Motorcycle Repair: Honda 1978 XL100, magneto, fuses

Question
I have an older Honda, a 1978 XL100, that was running earlier this year...  As of this last weekend, the bike quit running...  I had a new replacement plug and tried it out but no luck...  I did test the spark by removing the plug and placing it against the motor, kicked it over a few times, but little if no spark occured...  Bike has basically all original parts such as coil, points, etc...   Where do I start with diagnosing this problem?

Answer
Hi Joe.
Since the bike stopped running suddenly, I would start with the electrical.  Check the fuses, wiring and ignition components.  Then check your power system, magneto, battery, etc.  You will need the repair manual to check specs on the coil and the magneto as well as to see the wiring diagram.

Good luck.
