Question
I have a 1982 Shovelhead that has just been rebuilt about 2800 miles ago .After the first 500 miles or so we have started spewing oil out of the breather line . This only happens on a startup and does not do it every time.We thought that the S&S oil pump may have been faulty, so we put a new one in (this would be the 2nd new pump)It still did it,we put a oil restrictor in the shaft,it still does it,not as mutch but did it twice in one day.prior to that it would do it once every 100 miles or so,but that is not an absolute. It does it whenever.I didnot skimp on the rebuild everything is new except the case, flywheel(whitch was cut and balanced) . We cut the flywhell because the prior owener beat the sides of the whell so badly it was a wonder that the wheel wasn't hitting the sides of the case, and the cylinders. Everything else is new.I am running the old styled oil filter that is mounted alonside &just fwd of the oil tank that had the horse hair filter,we changed the filter to a paper type.We put new S&S heads with duel plugs, thers a V Thunder shovel 4000 cam,new JIM's pistons. We split the oil system (oil no longer goes to the primery to oil the chain).
Well I think Iv'e covered about everything I can think of and would like to find a solution to this naging problem. Hasve you ever heard of or had this come to you before? Sure would apreciate a solution to this delema or any thoughts you might have to solving this. I would be ever so gratefull.

Answer
first off the oil sumping is because the oil check ball is not seating in the oil pump. remove cap then remove check ball spring and use a drift punch and give the check ball a tap then install a new check ball and reinstall the spring and then install the old check ball on top of the spring and then reinstall the cap.  2ng you need to change out the breather gear to a JIM steel gear mod by Dan Basiley to help with oil evac.  3rd  the oil fitting going to the top of the heads needs to be a .090" fitting not a .125" fitting, 4th= you need to drill the lifter block pee hole and drill them all the way throught to make them transfer ports like the EVO motors and 5th find at tech who knows how to build motors like thay are built in 2004 not in 1981
