Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Thundercat, slight difference, thermostat

Question
My Thundercat doesn't get hot. It runs perfectly well but it's lucky if the temp indicates 60'C when ridden. If left to idle the fan will switch on when it reads 105'C, this suggests to me that the gauge is reading right as it backed up by the fan S/W.
I have fitted a new thermostat and blocked off a third of the radiator, this has only made a slight difference, perhaps 65'C. Any suggestions, are their any factory MOD kits?

Answer
Hi Will.
Why be concerned?  Is it not heating up enough to disengage the choke?  If it warms up to a normal operating temp (one in which you can safely disengage the choke), then don't worry.  It means that the oil will last a bit longer and the engine won't wear as fast.

If temperature is a concern, then check it against the specs in the repair manual.

If there are any mod kits out there, then the dealership will know and either have them or be able to order them.

Good luck.
