Motorcycle Repair: 1991 honda cb750 electrical, honda cb750, starter solenoid

Question
When I tried to start my bike the only thing that happened is that the headlight dimmed dramatically.  The engine did not turn over.  I replaced the battery with a new one that was charged for 3 hours.  Tried to start the bike with the same result.  How long should the battery be charged for? What other potential problems might exist?

thanks . . . Tim Manville

Answer
Hi Tim,

The battery should be fine as described. There are other problems that need attention before the engine will start.

Check the starter button and kill switch contacts for corrosion, check starter solenoid, check starter motor, check all wiring in starting circuit for corrosion and secure coupling. These engines have starter clutches that sometimes need attention.

There was no email address included with your question as requested. I could not return repair and information files.
