Motorcycle Repair: oil light stays on, triumph 600 tt, oil light

Question
Hi Chris,

I have a 2001 Triumph 600 tt and had a quick question. The bike has been running fine until today. The oil light stays on after I start the engine. Now I am no mechanic but, the oil level is fine. I phoned the dealership and they told me to check the oil switch and the oil sensor wire to see if those are fine, problem is, I dont know what I am looking for to be exact. Basically I would like to see if I can solve this before I take it in to the shop. It was running 100% fine yesterday, and today the oil light just wont go off. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Answer
Hi Steve.
The dealership is correct.  The trouble is likely in the wiring to the sensor or in the sensor itself.  The oil sensor is usually at the bottom of the engine.  Look for 1 or 2 wires that run under the engine.  The precise location of the sensor and wiring for your bike, I am not certain, but, generally, the sensor is in the same general location.

What you will need to test the sensor is the repair manual and a multimeter.

Good luck.
