Motorcycle Repair: 1999 sportster front brake pads, brake caliper, brake bleeder

Question
southside, recently I changed the front brake pads on my softail, going with the manual it took me all of half an hour.I want to change the front brake pads on my wife's sportster but when I read the manual there were about twenty steps involved including special greases.Am I missing something in the reading of the manual? Is it really that involved or is there a shortcut? Thanks Mike Losurdo

Answer
LOOSEN UP BRAKE BLEEDER SCREW AND PUSH CALIPER UP AGAINST THE ROTOR WITH YOUR HANDS TO PUSH THE BRAKE PISTON IN AND TO LOOSEN UP THE PADS. RETIGHTEN BLEED SCREW. NOW REMOVE CALIPER FROM LOWER SLIDER AND OLD BRAKE PADS. AND REMOVE M/C COVER AND LOOSEN UP BLEES SCREW AGAIN AND USE C CLAMP TO PUSH THE PISTON ALL THE WAY IN NOW,NOW TIGHTEN BLEED SCREW AGAIN, INSTALL NEW BRAKE PADS AND REINSTALL BRAKE CALIPER WITH PADS AND PUMP BRAKES,NOW REFILL M/CYLINDER AND REINSTALL M/C COVER. TAKES ABOUT 15 MINS TO DO THIS.  JOHNNY
