Motorcycle Repair: 1976 Honda Goldwing, honda goldwing, luber

Question
Chris,
I have a 76 Goldwing with 27k miles and frequently sounds like a diesel at idle but is smooth on the highway. I am told the carbs need to be synchronized and the timing belts changed.
Others say it is the nature of the early wings and you need to get used to it. The noise does not seem to normal and I would like to keep the bike. Any opinion on the reliable, endurance and longevity of the early wings?

Thanks for taking the time to help,

Answer
Hi Dave.
Have you been maintaining the bike in accordance with the maintainence schedule in the owners manual or repair manual?

If not, then get it taken care of.  Deiseling is common amongst engines that are in need of a tune up.  More so if the valves and timing need to be adjusted or the belts need to be replaced.  Do the carb synch then as well.

Good luck.
