Motorcycle Repair: re-packing mufflers, honda nighthawk 700s, 1984 honda nighthawk

Hey Chris - can you tell me if I can re-pack the mufflers on my 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700s?  I'd rather do that then replace them, if possible.  If so, any tips?  Thanks!

Hi Carl.
 As you may notice, when you look closely at the mufflers, that the mufflers themselves are either welded or rivetted together.

 Without the proper equipment to reassemble them, you will end up with, at best, a sloppy looking muffler that does an average job or, at worst, a horrible looking muffler that will not do it's job correctly.

 You would be better off spending the money and getting either a full replacement set or a decent set of compatible slip-ons.
