Motorcycle Repair: Engine Temp, polaris quads, hi chris

Question
Hello, I have a Polaris 2-stroke four wheeler that has started running warmer than normal and does not idle as smoothly as it used to.I have cleaned the carb and checked the muffler with no success.Any suggestions. Thanks for your service, Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

Polaris quads are known for overheating. There's a list of mods that can help with this problem. Installing a zerk fitting (grease fitting) to the coolant reservoir cap hole and running a clear hose up above handlebars. Also, doing same for water pump weep hole.

It's important to keep mud out of radiator fins. It will look as if no mud is there, but it will be packed and full of mud. Careful cleaning after riding is crucial.

Lastly, air in the cooling system will cause coolant to boil at a lower temperature, say...225 instead of 245, for example. An air pocket at the water pump would mean no coolant circulation.
