Motorcycle Repair: Water & a Four stroke, adjustment screw, model machines

Question
I have a 2003 off brand 90cc atv for one of my girls. It ran very well until my 2 year old son poured water in the gas tank without my knowledge. To make a long story short in know runs good at high rpm's, but it will not idle.I have cleaned the carb/spark plug/gas tank and changed the oil witk no success.Do you have any ideas?Any help is appreciated, Chris

Answer
Chris, if it was running properly before this happened, I imagine that you still have a drop of water or debris in the idle jet. Many late model machines have no removable idle jets, so you don't always recognize them as such.
It is the one with about .012-.014" hole in it. A single drop of water in the passage can plug it up. Get some carb spray or use compressed air to check all passageways and the idle jet for clear passages. Idle jets often have cross-drilled holes in the end of the jet inside the carb body, so perhaps they are causing problems. If the idle mixture screw is blanked off for emission controls, you can usually drill out the plug (very carefully) remove the adjustment screw and blow air through the passages to clear any leftover stuff...
