Motorcycle Repair: Hearing a Noise, honda cb360, rob drew

Question
Hi Falcon,
Thanks for taking my question. I have an old '75 Honda CB360 that I recently got going after being in storage for 4 years. It is running really well after a few months of working on it. I have recently been riding it around the neighborhood, and I've been hearing a "popping" coming from the left muffler. The sound occurs predominantly when I let go of the throttle and let the bike cruise while in gear. Any idea what the noise might be? Maybe I need to sync the carbs? Thanks alot.

Answer
Hi Rob.
This is not a big problem.  The solution is to doublecheck the valve gap and ignition timing.  A carb synch can't hurt, but I don't believe it to be the cause of the problem at all.

All the specs for the valve gap and setting the timing correctly are in the repair manual.

Good luck.
