Motorcycle Repair: no fire at plugs, honda shadow, cdi ignition

Question
would low amperage in battery cause spark plugs not to fire ? i have a 1987 vt honda shadow i had some problem with no fire to the plugs ,i will run for awhile then suddenly stop , there is enough voltage to turn the starter at a very good speed , a local dealer has told me that there may not be enough amperage to make it fire , would this be possible? all wires and grounds are correct , or could this be the cause of the cdi ignition box?

Answer
Hi Roland,

The electrical sytem requires a battery in good condition and fully charged to operate properly.

A dead or sulphated ceell in the battery can cause running problems such as you've described. The CDI or other components can be damaged if a defective battery is used.

A defective CDI can also cause the problems you've described.

Consider having a tech examine the problem.

If you need a battery, buy a quality battery. Quality battery brands are Yuasa and Decka. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for.
