Motorcycle Repair: RPMs, gear ratios, shaft drive

Question
I have a 1982 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim shaftdrive and was wondering how long it is safe to run at high RPMs.It seems like its rapping out at about 75-80MPH.I was also wondering if there's anyway to change the gear ratios.
                              Thanks,

Answer
Hi Adam.
The Maxim is a great bike.  I had the midnight Maxim for a while and it ran like a charm the entire time I had it.

As long as you aren't running it at or over redline, you should be able to run it as long as your fuel holds out without a problem.  I used to run mine at 70 - 80 mph all the time and never had so much as a squeek.

As far as changing gear ratios, to the best of my knowledge, it's not possible.  Not on any shaft drive bike.

Ride safe.
