Motorcycle Repair: Bike keeps dieing on me!, motorcycle repair shop, routine maintainence

Question
I am a new rider, I bought a 1993 Honda CBR and when I ride, nowadays, my bike usually stops on me and the check OIL light comes on. Usually, it's hard to start as well. It also chugs before shutting off. I took it to a motorcycle repair shop and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Oh..and yes there's gas in it :-)

Answer
Hi LaMarr.
Chances are, that the bike spent a lot of time in storage or some other form of disuse.  HAve the carbs been cleaned properly and thoroughly?  Chances are, they never have been.

The other possibility is that you have an electrical short, bad connection or arcing against the frame or engine.  This will also cause this type of problem.  You will need a multimeter and the repair manual to check the electrical as well as the ignition coils which could also be going bad (least likely, but check them anyway).  The manual will also have a huge amount of info that you will need for routine maintainence.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck.
