Motorcycle Repair: Starting problems, honda hurricane, starter fluid

Question
Hey, Chris. Quick question for you. I have a 1988 Honda Hurricane 600.I just had it check and all problems fixed for the road. Today I tried to start it and it didn't want to fire up it almost drained the batty. It would turnover fine. I notice that the on/off start assy was lose and was moving back and forth. I tried another time and then it wouldn't turnover. If I tighten this up will that solve my problem? Or do I need to take it apart and see if I can see any addtional issues?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Answer
Hi Kevin.
Have you checked the ignition fuse?  Without that, you can do anything that you like and the bike still won't start.

You should make sure that you are getting good connections with the entire system, so yes, tighten that up, but check that fuse as well.

To test the system, use some automotive starter fluid.  Spray it into the air intake immediately before starting.  If it won't fire like that, then you are not getting any spark and the problem is either a short/bad connection/ bad fuse in the ignition system or a bad component in the ignition system.

Check it out and see what happens.
Good luck.
