Motorcycle Repair: 1992 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7, kawasaki ninja zx7, vacuum hose

Question
Mark,

I park my bike in an underground garage, I took it in for a tune up/oil change. I found that the previous owner had removed the air filter, perhaps due to the aftermarket pipe. They did a tune up and replaced the air filter. Anyways when I received my bike back I have had nothing but problems. I took it back they relined the gas tank, rebuilt the carb. I am still having problems, Sometimes it starts, sometimes not, when it does start it will just shut off after a minute or so. It also backfires somtimes when I try to start it.
This is costing me huge money and the problem isn't being resolved. Any thoughts?

Thanks
Richard

Answer
Hi Richard,

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing problems with your MC. The shop should make it run properly at their expense.

I suspect the problem may be in part due to improper carburetor synchronization. If the gas tank was Kreemed, I also would suspect particles of rust or varnish to still be in the tank/carbs. I might suspect a pinched vacuum hose or fuel hose as well.

There are a few possibilities that should be investigated for diagnosis. It's very hard to diagnose without being present.

Describe the appearance of the spark plugs to me if possible. Send reply to my email: mshively1@woh.rr.com

We can go from there.

Respectfully,
