Motorcycle Repair: 750 vulcan engine removal, jack move, shift rod

Question
In the process of replaceing a water gasket on the #1 cylinder on my 2001 750 Vulcan, I'm having trouble removing the engine from the frame.  Following my maintenance manual, it  calls for jacking the engine up, pulling  it forward and to the right.  Well, using that process, I keep hitting the shift rod on the frame and not being able to pull the engine out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Peter,

You're doing everything properly. It takes clever maneuvering and manipulation to remove that engine. I'm sure you've already done this, but raise and lower the floor jack, move and reposition engine, raise and lower some more, and pull.

Drink plenty of fluids and have your family or frinde assist. We all have this same experience, but those who drink, can't drink on the job. :)
