Motorcycle Repair: 1986 Goldwing, valve adjustment, goldwing

All of a sudden my Goldwing began to make a loud tapping noise  in the engine on the right side.  The bike seemed to run ok. as I drove it  half a mile home.  The sound changed with the speed of the engine and didn't get worse.  I changed the oil and filter, which didn't make a diference.  I am not much of a mechanic, but I have friends who are.  I am wondering what I should check?

Hi Steve.
 Start by checking your valve gaps on both sides.  It is possible that one or more has worn to the point of needing adjustment, so do them all, just to be safe.  That is what your problem sounds like, a simple valve adjustment.  The bike is probably due for one anyway.
Make sure that the engine is cold before you do it or it will come out wrong.
