Motorcycle Repair: clutch & brake hand levers, hand levers, 883 sportster

Question
I recently purchased a 2001 883 Sportster and am interested in replacing the clutch and brake levers. I would like to know what this process entails and if you feel this repair is within the realm of someone who is mechanically inclined, but new to motorcycle repair. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Answer
No problem. First the clutch lever. Follow the clutch cable until you find the adjuster. Loosed the locknut and turn the cable in to shorten it.Now remove the pivot pin in the lever and slide the lever out with the cable. Notice how the cable is attached. Remove the cable and install the new handle. readjust the cable and tighten the locknut. You should end up with about 1/8 inch play in the handle. Put it together in reverse.
Brake handle is about the same. remove the piviot pin and remove tha handle.
Good luck and happy riding
