Motorcycle Repair: drivetrain, wheel bearing problems, drive shaft

Question
BUNNS@HAWAII.RR.COM
I have a shaft driven Honda Shadow 500 and the rear wheel is locked.  Do you have any suggestions on the cause and possible remedies?

Answer
Hi Kevin,

The wheel lock could be from piston seizure, crankshaft seizure, clutch/transmission problems, final drive problems, brake or wheel bearing problems.

This problem needs to be investigated to determine the exact cause. I would start by removing the rear wheel and inspect the hub and drive splines. Next, moving forwards, check the drive shaft. Continue working forwards until you find the cause.
