Question
I AM RESTORING AN '73RD350, ACTUALLY A R5 WITH A RD TOP END, i DRILLED THE R5 CARBS TO ACCEPT THE OIL LINES (R5 LINES WENT TO CYLINDERS) dO TO A PUMP FAILER ON MY RZ I USED SEE THRU LINES, IE CHAIN SAW FUEL LINE, I BLED EVERYTHING SEVERAL TIMES $ WHEN USING THE THUMB WHEEL BOTH LINES ARE FREE OF AIR , BUT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING THE LEFT SIDE (LONG LINE) GETS AIR IN IT LOTS AT IDLE LESS WITH THROTTLE, PLUG INSPECTION SEEMS TO SHOW ENOUGH OIL, BUT IM NOT SURE, IS THIS NORMAL OR AM I PARANOID ?

Answer
Dave,
Ha! Not pariniod, just a bit concerned.  Yes, there will sometimes be some air bubbles in the lines but these are quickly expelled when they reach the end at the barrel.  "A lot" is a realitive term.  If you are concerned that you are indeed sucking in air at the pump you can find a swap and see if there is any diff.  Be absolutly sure the oil tank is full, the lines are new and clear and that you have bled the system fully.  It can take quite a while for oil to get from the tank to the carb. and you would be there quite a while with the thumb wheel found only on older models like the R5 you have.  To be safe, premix a small amount of fuel in the gas tank and run using the pump as well till you are sure you've seen a complete cycle from tank to carb.  Yes, good idea to use fuel safe transparant lines, I do as well.  Heres a link to some RD resources:  Motocarrera.com   They have many old stock parts.

Good luck, hope this helps,
Mike
