Motorcycle Repair: 1991Kawasaki Vulcan500 turn signal problem, turn signal switch, continuity test

Question
My turn signals stopped working.  The front lights still light up when the key is turned, the turn signal switch doesn't seem to do anything.  I check fuses and the bulbs, they all check out ok.  My Haynes manual says somthing about replacing the turn signal relay switch, for the life of me i can't figure out exactly where that relay switch is located.  Also i would assume it is not a big deal to swap it out for a new one.  Please help.

Thanks

Answer
Sandy,
Yes, you could be dealing w/ a bad relay OR a malfunctioning switch.  You can test the switch easily by performing a continuity test on it with a multimeter.  If the switch is ok try replacing the relay.  Chances are it's on or near the fuse panel.  If not it may be inside the headlight housing.  This is where most bikes make their circuit junctions.  If this proves no good you will have to physically  follow the wire from the switch to the relay.

Hope this helps,
Mike
