Motorcycle Repair: bike electrical, valve adjustment, aspencade

Question
Chris,
I have a 1982 Honda GL1100A Aspencade. I have to disconect the battery when I am done riding, if I don't the battery will be drained when I go to ride it again. Also the bike lacks high speed performance and power. I was wondering if both of these problems could be somehow related.
The bike has been running like this since I got it last year. I thought it was running bad cause of bad battery, dirty carbs, plugs and wires or valve adjustment, now all that stuff has been taken care of and it still runs poorly and new battery will drain if I don't disconnect it. I'm not so good when it comes to bike electrics. Any Help will be appreciated.
Please advise,

Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff.
You have a short or ground out that is completing the circuit to the battery.  One of the circuits from the power end of it all is causing a general fault in the wiring.  you will need to check it all with a multimeter and repair it.  I don't know if it is part of your power loss, but it could be if the short is in the ignition wiring or stator wiring or both.

Good luck.
