Question

my maxim runs and starts (or at least it used to)grate but the other day i stoped for gas and when i tryed to leave all i got was click. after  a little checking i found the clicking comming from a relay behind the battery. i ended up push starting it. im a little new to motorcycle mechanics but if it were a car id say the selonoid was out. but ive heard that this could be a weak battery too . ive  noticed that when i use the breaks my lights dim very slightly and sometimes it turns over slow from time to time .any help will be much appreciated. thanks in advance

Answer
Hi David.
Check the battery with a hygrometer.  If even one cel is bad, then replace the battery.  Also check the charging system.  If it isn't charging at 13-15 VDC at the battery leads, then the stator coil is bad and needs to be replaced.

Also, check the starter motor for bad connections or bad internal contacts.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck.
