Motorcycle Repair: dumping fuel, honda cb 750, honda cb 750 k

Question
Falcon,

I ride a 1978 honda cb 750 K.  I ride it almost every day.  Today I started the bike and opened the choke as usual while it warmed up.. Then I realized that there was a fair amount of gasoline(10 oz.) that had been dumped out by the hoses that come from below each of my carbs..  They are there to help from flooding the engine, right?  But why after riding this bike for the last year has this problem just occured and why so drastically?  Is it a floater problem?  Note:when the gas valve is in the off position gas does not reach the carbs.

Answer
Hi Patrick.
Those hoses are drains for the float bowls.  When you turn the drain screws on the bottom of the float bowls, the fuel dumps out of those instead of onto a hot engine.

What you may have is leaking valves in the floats.  Rubber wears out after a few decades and needs to periodically be replaced.  That is the case here, by the look of it.

Good luck.
