You have two switches in the system to turn the brake light on. One is for the front and one for the rear. Since you worked on the handle bars lets start there. That is probably where your problem is. The switch is located on the right side behind the master cylinder.If you look at the right side you will notice that the master cylinder and switch section are two pieces. They need to be slid together. When they are tight together they push the button in and shut off the light.If there is a space between them the button is out and the light is on.
If this doesnt solve the problem then check the rear switch. Follow the rear brake line until you find the switch. It will have two wires. One is hot the other is not hot going to the light. When the brake is off there should be no power at the wire going to the light.
