Motorcycle Repair: Splitting a case, shift fork, case hi

Question
Hi Chris, names Josh. I just purchased a 95 YZF 600R, and the second gear shift fork is shot. We have the engine out on the bench flipped over and we have the bottom cover off where you can see all the gears, oil pump, ect.We have taken every bolt out we can find (including the one under the oil pump) and both the flywheel and generator have been removed from the crank. The problem is the case will not come apart, I don't know if we're missing a bolt or what. I've searched the internet and can't find a blow up of the case or a procedure that would tell us exactly how to split the case I was wondering if you could offer me some tips, advice, or sites that would help me. I'm really stuck and would like to ride this summer.
Thank you in advance,
Josh DeMatteo

Answer
Hi Josh.
What you really need is the repair manual for the bike.  You can get one through about any decent bike shop, through the Yamaha dealer, or at www.repairmanuals.com.

I can tell you that to split the case, you need a good 5lb mallet and a good broad-head chisel.  Use the hammer and chisel to split the case and you will need a proper gasket sealer to reassemble the case when you are done.

Good luck.
