Motorcycle Repair: Clutch on RM 125, suzuki rm125, clutch lever

Question
I have a 1996 Suzuki RM125.  All stock with 20-25 total hours.  When I put the bike into 1st gear, it will jump forward and stall unless I give a bit more gas and maybe a little of the back brake.  Once I get going, shifting is smooth.  What do you suggest?

Thanks.

Bob

Answer
Hi Bob.
Have you tried adjusting the clutch?  This sounds like it is only a matter of adjusting the clutch cable so that it grabs a bit sooner.  The clutch should engage near the beginning of clutch lever travel, not near the end.

Try that and let me know what happens.
Good luck.
