Motorcycle Repair: one last thing, air filter system, rubber diaphragms

Question
Hello again,

I was just wondering if the cl360 will do over 9k in perfect condition what would be good for 30 years old? Mine works real hard to get up to 6k and couldn't imagine it going to 9k so do you think something else would help?
Thank you for all of your help and for letting me keep bugging you it is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your time,
Jesse

Answer
Jesse, they will run that hard IF the compression is even and around 175 psi, the valves are set correctly, the camchain is tensioned properly, the timing and spark advance are correct, the mufflers are original, the air filter system is original and clean, the carburetors are both clean and set correctly. There are rubber diaphragms that control the throttle slides and they can get tears or pinholes in them, which will definitely kill the performance.

My 1963 305 Super Hawks would go past 10k any time, and that was just a few years ago. The 360s have bigger pistons and longer stroke so may be struggling towards 9k, but they were designed to do that when everything is right.
