Motorcycle Repair: honda electrical, 1976 honda cb550, ground wires

i have a 1976 honda cb550 that i have restored. the bike is all original.basically i didassembled, painted and reassembled.the problem is,i am trying to start the bike,the main fuse keeps blowing. ive tryedjumping from a car battery and a charger. both ways i keep poping the fuse as soon as i turn they key on.the main battery ground is good.but ive gone through 7 fuses already.any help would be great.there is  no battery for the bike ,just want to test fire it.

Carl, you need to check all of your wiring and your grounds. IF you painted the frame and other parts, you may have lost the ground path to some components. You may also have grounded a hot wire inadvertently. By 1976, most Ground wires were GREEN and switched HOT wires were black.
Go over the harness connections and inspect each one carefully. Check where the ground wires go and be sure that that area of the frame is scraped off so the ground wires are connected to clean METAL.

I would NOT recommend trying to start the bike from a charger or a car battery. I would unplug all the lights first and see if your problem ceases, then plug in one at a time until you discover the problem.

A wiring diagram from an owner's manual or shop manual will be of great assistance to you.
