Motorcycle Repair: 1988 Yamaha FZR 1000, yamaha fzr 1000, stator coil

Question
Hey Chris...
My bike keeps killing the battery and the battery is brand new.  What could some possible problems be and do you know of anywhere I can find the repair manual online?

Answer
Hi Morgan.
Most likely the stator coil has failed on you.

1)  Start the bike up and let it idle.

2)  Using a multimeter, check the voltage across the battery terminals.  It should be between 13-15VDC.  If it is less than 13VDC, then you need a new stator coil.

Chances are that if the bike is near or past the 50,000 mile mark, then the stator coil is due for replacement anyway.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck.
