American Motors: water drain, javelin amx, inner fender

Question
nice to see amc guys out there, ever see any amc's being assembled on the line?.love the javelins, i have 3 amx's, question.......it seems the lower corners of the back window seem to rust out, along with the front corners of the windshield, any kind of setup to make a water drain tube to carry the water off, instead of just sitting there and rusting?...........also have u seen the program on the history channel about police cars?...they had the 72 javeins on there and talking about how they filled the top of the inner fender with gravel to make them heavier at high speeds....thanks

Answer
I toured the Kenosha plant while working for AMC. I also have an old book titled "What happens in a car factory" showing 68-69 Javelins running down the assembly line in Kenosha.
I don't know of any procedure for installing a drain at the lower corner of the windshield and back glass. One guy I knew filled the area in with clear RTV before installing the molding. He claims it kept the water from collecting in the area. I have found that if the metal is properly prepped and painted, thouroughly rinsing the area with a garden hose worked OK. Let me know if you come up with a drain system, might just work.
I didn't see the program on police cars. I know Alabama had a fleet of Javelin AMX's. Wisconsin had a large fleet of Matadors, too. I would think adding gravel would also make the cars heavier at low speed, too. Especially when cornering. Hmmm.
Good luck with your AMX's.
