Motorcycle Repair: Front brake , Harley, dot 5, chrome version

Question
Hi,
I recently replaced the original master-cylinder with the chrome version (original Harley) I was told to use DOT 5 fluid. Since this wasnt in the system, I drained it totally with DOT 5, and went through with the "ventilation" process. However, the brake action comes "to late". The brake handle is more or less all the way in, before you get proper brake-power. This does not feel perfect, if you suddenly need to "panic". What else is ther to look into? I would like to have good brake-power with the brake-handle, like "half-way" or similar.

Thanx in advance

Answer
What was in the system if it wasnt dot5? I ask this because all master cylinders on harleys have used dot5.
Sounds like the problem is that all the air is not out of the system. Keep bleeding the system. The hole in the master cylinder for the brake fluid to go through is very small and it takes a while to get all the air out.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
