Motorcycle Repair: clutch handle bracket, honda shadow ace, clutch side

Question
I just replaced the mirror bracket on the clutch side. It's a Honda Shadow Ace Deluxe 750, 2001. I replaced everything as it came off, switch etc. Problem now is that it won't allow me to shift, goes into gear and kills the engine. I've reversed the leads to the switch twice, made the switch stick out further rather than in the notch where it should go. Is there a reset or something? I've tightened and loosened the cable to each extreme and inbetween. Can't figure it out. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Kevin,

From the information given, sounds as if the clutch cable needs adjusted properly.

The switch leads have nothing to do with it. That's jsut a safety feature. Same for the side stand switch.

Question: Did you make any adjustments to the clutch cable lower end?

To fix: Run cable adjuster and lock nut (round) in as far as possible. Insert clutch cable end into lever. Pull cable through slots and into cable adjuster. back adjuster out leaving about 5 to 10mm of travel (play) in the clutch lever and lock the adjuster nut finger tight against the bracket. Should have clutch that works properly.
