Motorcycle Repair: HD 1450 Twin Cam Engine, twin cam engine, using a ruler

Question
I'm coming up on the 1000 mile mark on my new 04 HD Superglide.  Will be changing the fluids at that time.  I've never adjusted a PRIMARY CHAIN before:  QUESTION: #1) Does the primary chain usually need "ACTUAL" adjustment at 1000 miles?
QUESTION:  #2 I've read instructions on the adjustment and it mentions a "TOOL" for measurement of the upper primary chain slack.  Is this tool actually necessary?  If so, can you identify the tool by HD part number? Any additional information you can provide to me regarding the primary chain will be much appreciated.   Thanks.

Answer
THERE IS NO TOOL TO MEASURE PRIMARY CHAIN UPPER CHAIN SLACK.THE ADJUSTMENT IS MADE USING A RULER OR TAPE MEASURE. IT SHOULD BE 3/8" TO 1/2" INCH PLAY IN MIDDLE OF THE CHAIN, YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ADJUST IT BUT UNDER NEW BIKE FIRST SERVICE HARLEY TELLS YOU TO CHECK IT. SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY
