Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Carbs, bikebandit com, air fuel mixture

Question
hi Mark, I have a quick question. I have a 1979 Yamaha XS 1100 , and Im having carb problems. I also have a 1980 Yamaha 650 thats been wrecked but the carbs are still good.  Can I swap them out? if so will I have to change the boot between the carb and the head?  I know there will probaly be a difference in the power , but will it work until I can find some 1100 carbs?
Any help would be great , thanks  Andy

Answer
Hi Andy,

I'm not sure if the carbs will work or not. People have made similar things work. I suspect the 650 carbs will provide inadequate supply of air-fuel mixture to the huge 1100 cylinders.

Visit the following websites: "www.bikebandit.com" and "http://www.yamaha-motor.com/" to view parts microfiche on-line. Compare part numbers and other info to help you figure the task.

What kind of problems are you having with the carbs that would cause replacement? Are the carbs varnished from storage or damaged? I can send files to assist you with cleaning, tuning, and sychronizing carburetors.

Respectfully,
