Motorcycle Repair: 1977 sportster, clutch cable, amf


Question
My clutch cable has broke. Can u give me any tips on how to repair.
        1977 AMF\Harley XL
             4 speed/no mods/

Answer
No problem.
First remove the cable from the clutch handle. Drain the oil from the primary. Remove the primary cover. Inside the primary cover you will see where the cable attaches. Take the adjuster( on the outside of the cover) and screw it in all the way. Now slide the new cable in and attach. The part it attaches to pivots and will come out so you can get the cable end in. Install the primary cover with a new gasket. Attach the cable end to the clutch handle. Now screw the adjuster out of the primary cover until you have about 1/8 of a inch of play in the clutch handle. Fill the primary and you should be good to go.
