Motorcycle Repair: paint removal, crappy paintjob, dual action sander

Question
i have a 1970 ct70 topaz orange the old owner painted it black do you know a good way to remove old paint without stripping factory paint i had some progress with cummy looking paint stripper from the hardware store

Answer
It depends on how thick the paint is. If its only been painted one or two other times, sand entire thing with a D.A. (dual action sander) and "Feather" out the paint. If its a crappy paintjob, or has been painted over many times, you will need to strip it to get the best results. Remember, the paint job is only going to look as good as whats underneath. And that "Gummy" paint strpper stuff actually is the best stuff to use. Heres a hint with the stripper, Do it out in the sunlight, and apply liberally, dont be afraid to slop that stuff on there. Also, remember, when you go to bare metal, you always have to use a "Metal etching" primer first before paint.

Hope this helps....
