Motorcycle Repair: Painting, automobile painter, spray guns

Question
I have recently purchased a 2003 Suzuki 650s. I have also just purchased a new fairing body kit for it. I am an artist and a airbrush painter. I want to airbrush the new fairings badly. However i do not know what i am going to need. What else should i do besides airbrushing it. Its not like canvas so do i prep it wit a base first ? please help. Thank you.

Answer
Lets see....
Your absolute best option is to give the fairing kit to a  (automobile) painter to prep the plastic, and put the "base coat" , or primary color on.(whatever is on the rest of the bike) Next, do your thing with whatever you want to do as far as the airbrushing side of it. After that is dry for twenty four hours, give it back to the automobile painter and let him "clear-coat" it. I'm not sure if you want to do all of the work yourself, but believe me, this is your best option. The equipment, spray guns, pressures, techniques between you (the artist) and the automobile painter is VERY different. Ive seen it many times before where an airbrush artist will try to do everthing, and it just doesnt look good, and I've also seen a bodyman and painter try to airbrush. The secret is to realize that you both have different talents and equipment and share the work, you wont be sorry!!!

Any good painter in your area will have experience painting over airbrush, and will be willing to work with you. When you said the fairing isnt a "Canvas" , you werent kidding, Some plastic kits have to be prepped with certain chemicals and let sit for twenty four hours after you take them out of the bag. Like I said, A good painter will know this already and work with you.

Hey, please let me know how this turns out for you.

Hope this help,
