Motorcycle Repair: Harley Davidson 1999 Softail, harley davidson, railroad track

Question
Chris, I am actually asking this question for my husband, Sean.  We live in Virginia and just got back from a ride.  During the ride, we noticed that the bike was making a "squeaking" noise whenever Sean shifted gears.  We weren't able to figure out where it was coming from but it seemed to get louder after we went over something like a railroad track.  We've looked at our manual, but nothing seems to fit.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi.
I'm not really sure what to make of something like that.  It could be that something is loose that happens to squeek everytime tht pessure is applied to it.  Possibly a foot peg or motor mount.  It could also be that the shifter lever is scraping against something or needs to be greased on its hinge-pin.

Other than that, I haven't a clue.
Wish that I could help you further.
Good luck.
