Motorcycle Repair: Crankcase full of gasoline, honda gold wing, open valves

Question
1983 Honda Gold wing  Aspencde it sat for three months while I was waiting on new starter. I pulled the starter and fuel ran out of starter hosing,I'm guessing a quart. Checkerd the oil and it was also full of gasoline. What would cause fuel to leak into crankcase and how would it get in. I checked the fuel pump diaphram and it was ok. The bike has never given me any problems in the past and as been well cared for , Garage kept for intire life has 40,000 actual miles

Answer
Hi Ken.
Since the bike spent the entire time sitting, I would say that what you have is one or more leaking seals in the fuel system.  It appears that what has happened that fuel seeped past the floats into the carbs and past the slightly open valves into the engine.  Check the float valves and I'll bet that you'll find the seals gone bad.  Not very bad, but ready to be replaced.

Check it out and see what you find.
Good luck.
