Suzuki 2003 gsx-r750, my clutch has been slipping and so I made adjustments and took it to the shop and it worked for awhile but now same problem. I took the plates out and they look fine. Now I am stuck on what to look for. My shop said to play with the clutch lever and that was most likely the problem. But I just want to make sure there is nothing more. Let me tell you what happens. I shift gears and the rpms shoot up before it engages into gear. This happens in all gears. I have adjusted the lever and it still happens. The cable it self is somewhat loose. So now that I have everything apart now what should I look for and what should I adjust or fix. Also when I am in gear any gear I hit the gas and the rpms also will shoot up befor it moves. Also I had the clutch replaced already once and I have not even 500 miles yet on the bike.

Hi Carla,

Either the clutch is a manufacturer recal/warranty problem, you're doing something that is frying the clutch, or you're using a synthetic oil not designed for a MC clutch. The clutch is definitely slipping and will progressively get worse. I'm not familar your riding style or habits. Popping/riding wheelies, banging gears, racing, inproper clutch usage, etc.. will eat clutches, too.

Did you disassemble the clutch and take measurements? Measure thickness of each plate (fiber & metal) in three locations. Check metal plates for warping (true flat surface & feeler guage). Check metal plates for signs of discoloration (blue color) means warpage, toasted.

Clutch springs should be ok with 500 miles and a 2003 model.

Get a service manual and adjust the clutch cable properly. With manuals, you get what you pay for. It will pay for itself with the first home repair.

Send me your email address as requested and I'll return repair information files.

Hello Mark thank you for the info its funny that when I go to the shop they give me the run around. If you can email me the repair info that would help me a great deal the books I have dont get to much into it. Everything looks good but I really dont know what I am looking at half the time I can somewhat guess but when you get into the types and MC and so on I get somewhat lost. So anything that could help would be great. My email is kitt2c@aol.com
Thank you for your time and help.

Answer
Carla,

That's true about shops. I've seen service managers and mechanics say things to customers that were untrue to buy time or to cover their buttocks following a mistake.

And about warranties...Kawasaki has a type of warranty fix that only gets authorized repair if and when the customer complains. Then, the service department explains that it's a freebie due to a recall/warranty. Applies to non-life threatening repairs, of course.

Check your mail for the files. Email me directly for assistance as needed. Service manuals are designed for experienced mechanics. Everybody else has to ponder the lack of images and intel printed in them. You'll appreciate the files. They're a collection of years of experience assembled in a document. Please let me know your opinion of the files.
