Motorcycle Repair: no spark, xt500, multimeter

hey mate i have a 1979 xt500 yamaha with no spark at the pionts.ireplace the old coil with new,new condenser i have turn singals that work,horn works ,i have no lights but i have brake light.good battree,fuel ok jet cleaned . couple of months back i could push start it  but not now? got a idea mate?    bob

Hi Bob.
 Well, since you have power everywhere else and have new condensor coils, then there could only be a few things wrong.

You could have a blown ignition fuse, a short in the wiring to the condensor coils, or a bad connection somewhere in the ignition circuit between the condensor coils and the power source.  You will need a multimeter to check for shorts, but bad or corroded connections will be fairly obvious when you are looking for them.

Start there and let me know what you find.
